The National Air Carrier of Montenegro, Air Montenegro, continues their strong growth this year and since the beginning of 2022 they have transported over 230,000 passengers which represents a significant increase of 150% compared to the same period of 2021.

Of course, it’s not been easy with external conditions taking effect for the new airline such as Covid, the situation in Ukraine and numerous air traffic control challenges, however, the figures released are very positive, and the outlook for 2023 is stronger still with even higher passenger numbers expected.
In terms of routes, the airline now flies to 16 destinations which include Belgrade, Prague, Istanbul, Tel Aviv, Paris, Zurich and Nice plus there’s plenty of activity going on behind the scenes negotiating with other airports and tour operators.
Having started off with only small capacity aircraft, the increase in passenger numbers can also be attributed to the rental of larger aircraft such as the Embraer 195 which can carry a maximum of 132 travellers per journey.
Dragana Frantov Nikolić, who is the Acting Executive Director of Air Montenegro, recently commented that ‘ The further development of the market and the realization of a greater number of lines will largely depend on the signing of bilateral agreements for air traffic, which would enable the opening of regular lines and the realization of a greater number of flights to markets that are important to us’.
An increase in passenger numbers and capacity + the investment that’s currently going on at both Tivat & Podgorica Airports will also contribute to a longer tourist season, meaning a stronger economy in the longer term, benefitting all industries within Montenegro.
